Music has a way about us. Have you ever noticed that if a baby listens to a “sad” song, it will start crying or become upset? Or have you ever been running with headphones in and noticed that your pace became faster as the tempo sped up? Being both a negative and positive attribute of music, music can influence our emotion and our being. Therefore, if you find yourself in somewhat of a struggle in regards to education, you may want to surround yourself with positive ideology that can, in fact, come from music. Below I will be posting the titles, song artists, and lyrics that pertain to motivation (just in case you don’t want to view all of the songs but do want to hear some that you feel will help you.) I tried to pick songs from various genres to tailor to everyone who views this post.
“I’m gonna reach on up over that fear,
Oh whenever I’m alone, won’t you please be near?
I know that darkness before the dawn
Tomorrow’s coming and yesterday’s gone
Gonna get my baby and head upstream
Fall asleep in her arms and drift away in a dream
Gonna go out walking in the morning light
Well I know that by tomorrow gonna be alright.”
2. Swedish House Mafia – Don’t You Worry Child
“Don’t you worry, don’t you worry, child
See heaven’s got a plan for you.”
3. Michael Jackson – Man in the Mirror
“I’m starting with the man in the mirror.
I’m asking him to change his ways.
And no message could have ever made it clearer:
If you want to make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make a change.”
4. Matt and Kim – Now
“I know that things aren’t perfect
But lets make tonight worth it
Stand up right here take a bow
And we will all ride this thing down
“And the sand in hand has turned to glass.
A Jeroboam filled with a life that’s passed.
Toss it off the balcony and listen for the crash.
I am not waiting anymore.”
6. The White Stripes – Seven Nation Army
“I’m gonna fight ’em off
A seven nation army couldn’t hold me back
They’re gonna rip it off
Taking their time right behind my back
And I’m talking to myself at night because I can’t forget
Back and forth through my mind behind a cigarette”
7. Talib Kweli – Get By
“This morning, I woke up
Feeling brand new I jumped up
Feeling my highs, and my lows
In my soul, and my goals
Just to stop smokin’, and stop drinkin’
But I’ve been thinkin’
I’ve got my reasons
Just to get (by), just to get (by)
Just to get (by), just to get (by)”
“I gotta stay humble and move jus like a bumble bee
Can’t let your in great struggle me (no)
So please no stees’ biting
I’m just a teenager…
With a little bit of gold and a pager.”
