Adams State College was founded in 1923, and is proud to have received Program of Excellence awards in Biology, Music, Graduate Counseling, and Business. Beginning as a mere teacher’s college, it has bloomed into a full grown liberal arts college offering 16 majors and 28 minors. One of its latest achievements is earning the designation of Regional Education Provider for southern Colorado.
Adams State College takes pride in having small classes with 2/3 of the classes having 20 students or fewer. Each class is supervised by full-time professors who also provide academic consultation. With the goal of providing quality education at a low cost, ASC has the lowest tuition in Colorado among four-year programs.
Recognizing the critical need for higher education, to keep up with the competitive professional market, ASC makes available distance learning educational programs and courses that will fit the busy schedule. Students have the options to have lesson delivered to them through web-based classes (telecommunication courses) or through print-based classes (correspondence courses).
Adams State College offers distance degree programs accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. It offers the same quality of learning with no distinction from traditional classes so students are guaranteed of the same excellent education provided by ASC to its on-campus students.
Some of the undergraduate programs offered by Adams State College are: Associates in Arts and Science, Bachelors in Business Administration with emphases options in Applied, General, Agricultural and Health Care Business, Legal Studies, Management Information Systems; Interdisciplinary Studies with emphasis on History/Government, and Sociology with emphases on Social Welfare, Criminology and Criminology-Law Enforcement.
Graduate students can make use of the Educator Professional Development Courses which ASC offers in partnership with outstanding education leaders. Students are also able to choose from a variety of certificate programs in Paralegal, Advanced Paralegal, Legal-Nurse Consultant Training, Legal Investigation, Legal Secretary and Victim Advocacy.
Aside from these distance learning programs, Adams State College offers over 200 non-credit courses are available for personal and professional enrichment such as ACT, SAT, GRE, GMAT and LSAT preparations. Another option for those who would like to pursue distance learning is the Colorado Incarcerated Offender Post-Secondary Program (CIOPP), a special program with the collaboration of the Colorado Department of Corrections. Many certificate programs have been established to assist students in developing career goals in this field.
Adams State College offers convenience for aspiring extended studies learners with its web-based and print-based methods of delivery. Likewise, registration can easily be done through: a) logging on to the university’s website, b) calling ASC’s toll free number, and c) mailing a course registration form that can be downloaded from the ASC website.
