Alliant International University Distance Learning

Alliant International University is an independent, nonprofit institution of higher learning founded in 2001 when the United States International University and California School of Professional Psychology combined. AIU is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, has about 3700 students, and boasts of a diversity of campuses. Seven of its campuses are located in California and four are located internationally. Another excellent campus is their Virtual Campus which offers distance learning and is also based in California.

Getting an education online through distance learning provides many advantages. The main one is flexibility in scheduling that allows adults to continue with full time jobs and family while taking classes in the convenience of home without the cost of a daily commute to campus. The program fits the student’s schedule instead of the student having to work around a formal campus class schedule. Assignments can be completed any time night or seven days a week.

Most online programs at Alliant International University can be completed in one year provided students take a full time class load. Tuition is $560 per unit. Alliant offers several types of financial aid including grants, loans, scholarships and part time employment. Funding for financial aid comes from both federal and state government, banks, and private donations.

Alliant International University Online provides interaction with peers through message boards and with professors through message boards, email and phone. Professors at Alliance are not only knowledgeable and certified in their content fields but they are also instructors are passionate about meeting their students’ individual needs in accordance with their individual learning styles.

Alliant International University distance learning offers course credits, certificates, and degrees. Admission requirements include a high school diploma or GED. Programs are offered through online classes, web supported classes, and distance learning classes through video conferencing. At Alliance International University Online all students need is a computer with internet access, Microsoft office Real One Player, and Adobe Reader. An email account is also required.

One online distance learning program offered by Alliant is the Master of Arts in Education. This program requires the completion of 30 units and can be completed with one year of full time study. It focuses on the needs of California teachers needing advanced training and degrees.

There are two options in the Master of Arts in education program. One is the teaching concentration area which offers content related to professional education, assessment and application of technology. The other option is Technology and Learning Curriculum which prepares students for careers in education and business. The focus is on the use of technology, including the study of technology and digital media, and creative design of learning environments, teaching at a post secondary level, technology applications in learning, and research jobs.

Another program offered online by Alliant is the Write Institute Certificate which provides continuing education credits for salary advancement. This requires completion of 6 graduate level units which can also can count as part of the TESOL Master’s program .

Alliant International University Online distance education programs provide a wonderful opportunity for students who cannot relocate to a campus or who need to work full time. What a great way to get that advancement!
