Berklee College of Music Distance Learning

Berklee College of Music prides itself in preparing students for careers in music through their revolutionary curriculum consisting of the study and practice of contemporary music. Berklee was founded in 1945, but has morphed over the years to accompany the ever-changing business, scene, and technology of music. It offers over a dozen performance and nonperformance majors as well as an online school that lets students study at their convenience with reputable contemporary music experts.

For over fifty years, the college has called Boston, Massachusetts home. Students can be inspired by attending the many musical venues available including the Boston Symphony Hall, TD Garden, or the House of Blues. Visitors to “Beantown” can also take in a Boston Red Sox baseball game at Fenway Park or take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage through the historic districts.

Plenty of musical performances can be found at Berklee College’s very own Berklee Performance Center. Recent popular artists to grace the stage include Bobby McFerrin, Lionel Loueke, and Jorge Drexler. The Performance Center can be found on Twitter, Facebook, Yelp, YouTube, and MySpace.

Berklee’s online school is known as Berkleemusic and offers over 50 unique study options and 80 enlightening courses. Some subjects offered through distance learning include songwriting, music production, and home recording.  Online course lessons are media-intensive, fun, and interactive.  Pop and Rock Vocals, Basic Ear Training, and Getting Your Guitar Sound are among the exciting courses that are available.  Courses can be taken either for credit or non-credit.  Other interesting courses include Steve Vai Guitar Techniques (taught by Steve Vai himself), Songwriting for Film and TV, and Pro Tools 101.

Berkleemusic also offers multi-course certificate programs designed to provide students with three levels of coursework in areas such as guitar, production, music business, and arranging.  The first level is Specialist and is comprised of three introductory courses.  Professional is second with anywhere from five to six courses.  Lastly, the largest and most robust certificate program is the Masters program which goes anywhere from seven to twelve courses.  Course offerings are the same for the online program as they are for on-campus students.

For additional evaluation prior to enrollment, Berkleemusic offers prospective students a chance to participate in a course demonstration completely free online.  The online environment includes enhanced collaboration tools such as instant messaging, a streamlined workflow for completing lessons, and rich, interactive content such as animated demonstrations accompanied by supplemental audio.  Berkleemusic also uses software designed by Propellerhead that allows them to interact with virtual instruments, effects, and mixers.  This software emulates real-world equipment with astounding accuracy and precision.

Finally, with regard to financial aid, Berklee Music offers flexible payment plans and collaborates with several educational loan providers such as Wells Fargo, SallieMae, and GreenNote.  Additional assistance is provided to military service members and many employers can choose to help with tuition through Berkleemusic’s Employer Reimbursement Tuition Assistance Program.

Several schools offer music degrees. You can search for schools that offer music-related degrees with that “Quick Degree Finder” in the top left corner of this website.
