Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas was founded in 1881 as a quaint liberal arts school affiliated with Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). A private institution, Bethany College offers students individualized focus from the greater Bethany College community an active learning experience. Ranked in the top colleges in the Midwest according to U.S. News and World Report, the school issues prestigious Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Music Education, and Bachelor of Social Work degrees to undergraduates each year.
The campus is located in Lindsborg, Kansas which is a quaint town famous for its Swedish roots and the arts. Lindsborg is host to a festival every two years known as the Svensk Hyllningsfest. The Svensk Hyllningsfest, held in October, honors Swedish culture which has historically been part of the town from its inception. Stretching 53 acres, Bethany College is comprised of 21 buildings including a large auditorium, a regionally-acclaimed art center, and the Birger Sandzén Memorial Gallery. The Gallery is home to the nearly complete collection of Birger Sandzén’s paintings, prints, drawings and watercolors.
Students at Bethany College are encouraged to participate in more than 45 organizations, groups, and activities to foster leadership development. Sororities and fraternaties, student government, major-specific professional organizations, and professor-led research partnerships for undergraduates are just some of the engaging opportunities. Frequent recitals, concerts, and art exhibits are a pleasure for the senses for a faculty, staff, and students. Athletics include both men’s and women’s basketball, cheer squad, cross country, golf, track and field, soccer, and tennis. Their mascot is the Terrible Swedes and their colors are blue and gold. For prospective students, walking tours are regularly scheduled at Bethany throughout the year.
A broad spectrum of academic programs is available at Bethany which advocates a cooperative learning experience that is grounded in a strong curriculum. Majors, minors, and concentrations include education, teaching endorsements, humanities, fine arts, sciences, social sciences, minors, and pre-professional studies. Some of the most interesting tracks include Art Teaching, Speech and Theatre, Christian Outdoor Ministry, Music Instrumental Performance, Engineering 3+2 Mathematics, Physical Health and Wellness Coaching, Court Services and Corrections, and Veterinary Medicine.
Bethany College currently uses their Learning Management System (LMS) to facilitate the distribution of scheduling, financial aid, accounting, and residence information. Currently, Bethany College does not also provide courses entirely online or specific distance learning programs. However, Bethany does offer an accelerated three-year Bachelor’s degree program. The ambitious student can save money while still getting an all-encompassing learning experience. Majors that are available in the three-year program include Accounting, Business Administration, Computer Applications Minor, and Management Minor with International Management Concentration.
