Biola University is a private Christian university in La Mirada, California. This residential setting is in southern California on the border of Orange and Los Angeles counties. Biola University retains its conviction for biblically focused centered education and has been steadily growing here since its original inception in 1908. Today the college is on a 95 acre campus with 40 major buildings, many of which have been renovated or built within the past decade. Some of the newer buildings are the new library, progressive business center, and the athletic field. On campus there are also 10 residence halls and apartment completes as well.
Today the total enrollment has grown to 6123 students, 64% of these are undergraduates. Biola University has more than 140 programs offered through its seven schools with degrees ranging from Bachelors of Arts to Ph.D. for students to choose from. There are a total of 33 majors offered at the college; some of them are Art, Computer Science, Intercultural Studies, Humanities, and Kinesiology to name a few. Biola University also offers a limited selection of online courses to make distance learning possible for those students that may be interested.
Biola University offer high quality courses through the internet that share the high standards of education the college maintains on campus. The purpose is to offer students the opportunity to pursue an education through the convenience of their own busy life and work schedule. The online programs Biola University offers are Master of Arts in Apologetics, Master of Arts in Science & Religion, Master of Arts in TESOL, Special Education Certificate, and California CLEAR Credentials. These programs are for graduate students and teachers looking to add to or finish their education while they work. The Masters of Arts in Science & Religion is a new addition distance learning program meant to aid in integrating modern science with evangelical Christianity.
The limited selection in distance learning program for this particular college means most students must be within a reasonable traveling distance to campus. However, this isn’t necessarily a bad scenario; Biola University is only a 30 minute freeway ride from Los Angeles and is surrounded by nearby attractions. Student life will never get too boring with much to do on and off of campus. Bolia University provides several athletic facilities to the students; students may choose from the swimming complex with Olympic pool, six lighted tennis courts accompanied by lighted basketball courts and volleyball sandpits. There is also an archery range, fitness center, baseball and softball diamonds and soccer fields with jogging tracks.
Off campus, Southern California has plenty of activities to offer students of Biola University. There are professional athletics to attend for the National Football League, Major League Baseball, and the National Basketball Association; all together there are around 10 professional teams in the state. There are also water parks and natural reservations and sights for students to explore. Biola isn’t far from the pacific beaches, making surfing and tanning a mere 25 miles away. Disneyland is even closer to campus still, needless to say there is plenty to do and learn at Biola University.
