Bowie State University Distance Learning

Bowie State University is located at 14000 Jericho Park Road in the city of Bowie, Maryland. The first modest conception of the university was originally founded in the year of 1865 by the Baltimore Association for the Moral and Educational Improvement of Colored People. The institution grew from the original 2 year teacher education degree programs given in 1925 to 1988 when the institution grew into Bowie State University formally known as Bowie State College. Bowie State University offers students accreditation in bachelors, masters, and doctoral degree programs.  The campus is within approximate distance to the cities of Baltimore, Washington D.C, and Annapolis, making this area a hub for business, government, transit and technology.

The total enrollment at Bowie State University is currently 5,578 total students; an estimated 1,400 of these students live on campus. There are 388 staff members at Bowie State University along with 230 faculty members employed full time. The student to faculty ratio is 16 to 1 and nearly 92% of the full time faculty members have master’s degrees, while 60% have doctorate degrees.  Bowie State University has many different academic options for students to pursue. Currently, the university offers a total of 21 undergraduate majors, 20 master’s programs, 2 doctoral programs, 12 graduate certificates, and 2 certificates of advanced study taught through the four colleges on campus. The colleges on campus for students to attend at Bowie State University are the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Business, the College of Education and the College of Professional Studies

Most of the classes at Bowie State University focus on health sciences, information technology, natural sciences, computer science, business, and education. Aside from classes though, there are plenty of activities for students to participate in to keep busy through the school semesters. Aside from the local sites and city attraction in the cities of Baltimore, Washington D.C, and Annapolis there are plenty of activities on campus for students to enjoy. Aside from clubs and other organizations, Bowie State University has many sports for men and women to compete in against their peers.  In regards to men’s sports, Bowie State University offers outdoor track and field, cross country, indoor track and field, basketball, and football as well. For women, Bowie State University has sports in softball, bowling, tennis cross country, volleyball and a few more as well.

Even though currently Bowie State University has no online or distance learning program available for students at this time, maybe one day soon in the future it will be available to students. Still, there are advantages Bowie State University has to offer students in the general area. Bowie State University has a variety of degree programs and several f fields of study for students to major in; the university also has a strong athletic program to offer those that may be interested. The metropolis surroundings increase the probability for academic success and networking and there are plenty of options available throughout the campus to keep even the liveliest learners fulfilled.
