Buena Vista University, in Storm Lake, Iowa, is a private college founded in 1891. It has as affiliation with the Presbyterian Church. The College began as a one-room school in the Storm Lake Opera House, until it opened up Old Main, which is now just one of several building on the main campus. Buena Vista University was accredited in 1952 by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, and they began to offer two graduate programs in 1995. At this time Buena Vista became an official “University.” BVU’s main campus has twelve-hundred students at the main campus, and fifteen satellite campuses, at which distance and online learning options are available.
