Southern Illinois University, College of Applied Sciences and Arts
Southern Illinois University’s College of Applied Sciences and Arts first opened its doors in Jacksonville in 1980. At the present time, the College offers two baccalaureate degree programs in northeast Florida. Both programs are related to a specific career field and complement many of FCCJ’s Associate of Science and Associate of Applied Science degrees. The local programs are: the Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic Systems Technologies with a Specialization in Electronics Management and the Bachelor of Science degree in Health Care Management.

Each of the programs has three components: 48 semester hours of major coursework taken from SIU, 41 semester hours of core curriculum (general education) and 31 semester hours of career field electives. The major courses, which are offered by SIUC locally, meet on alternate weekends, Saturday and Sunday, from 8:00 AM to 4:50 PM. This accelerated delivery format allows the student to complete the major in a minimum of 16 months.

The remaining 72 semester hours are transferred to SIUC from other regionally accredited colleges and universities, CLEP/DANTES testing, military training, and work experience within the career field. Many of the related associate degrees offered by FCCJ may qualify for the Capstone option which lessens the core curriculum requirement from 41 to 30 semester hours

In addition to the two programs that are offered locally, SIUC also has an articulation agreement with FCCJ for students who might be interested in the Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Management. Although not yet available in Jacksonville, it is currently offered in the weekend format at several locations in CONUS (continental United States) as well as in a traditional format on the main campus in Carbondale, Illinois.

For additional information about any of SIUC’s programs, please contact us at the telephone number or email address included on FCCJ’s Virtual College Fair website. We look forward to helping you reach your educational and professional goals.
