Virginia College was established in 1983 and currently enrolls approximately 5,000 students. Nationally accredited through ACICS, the chain of institutions offers degrees and certificates in criminal justice, health care, paralegal, cosmetology and network engineering.
Culinary Arts: A Brief Review
The art of preparing and cooking food is known as culinary art. Typically, one who works with food does so in restaurants, a delicatessen, and hospitals, but additional opportunities are available in businesses, nursing homes, and gyms. Students who study the culinary arts can also work as a food critic, writer, consultant, or instructor once their talent has been established in the community.
There are notable culinary institutes located on four of the seven continents; by providing students access to similar information they can gain the education they desire without having to sacrifice family, work, or location.

Virginia College Online currently offers an Associate of Applied Science in Culinary Arts via the university’s Culinary Institute, Culinard. The program’s curriculum, which requires 77 weeks of full-time study (long if students choose to attend part-time), is focused on preparing students for occupations as chefs, cooks, and restaurant supervisors/ managers. According to the University website, graduates of Culinard should be able to calculate food cost, develop menus with nutritional information, understand the basic process and design of commercial kitchen design and be aware of the elements involved in hospitality marketing.
Virginia College Online’s tuition for the online Culinary and Pastry Arts Degree is currently $16,800.00, which includes all books and supplies. Financial Aid may be available for those who qualify, so the institution encourages students to contact the Office of Admissions to begin the application process and speak with a Financial Aid Representative.
Upon completion of the program, graduates are offered the opportunity to work closely with Career Services to find employment in their field of study. Currently, according to VCO, the Culinary and Pastry Arts Degree Program has an impressive 100% placement rate.

Aside from the obvious – that everyone eats food – students who study the culinary arts are instructed not only on the necessary techniques needed to cook and present meals in restaurants, but also how to plan menus and recipes, purchase restaurant supplies, manage kitchens and train staff.
