Registering for Distance Learning Courses

Registering for Distance Learning courses is like registering for any other course. If you have not already done so, you must officially apply for admission to Florida Community College at Jacksonville. You can apply online or visit any campus Enrollment Services Office for information and an application. For information about how to register, visit the Registration Information Page.

A convenient way to browse courses, register, drop/add, and check your schedule is using the Internet-based Artemis System. Information about how to use Artemis is here. The Web address for Artemis is https://artemis.fccj.edu/student/.

Important Tips for Registering for Distance Learning Courses

  • Read schedule notes carefully before registering. "Schedule Notes" are listed for each individual course in Artemis and give key details about course information, such as orientation date, required software, instructor web page, and special instructions. Schedule notes may be updated before the official semester start date, so after registration, be sure to check the notes regularly for any important changes.

  • Be sure that you meet the technical requirements for distance learning courses. There are technical and skill requirements for online courses. Most importantly, you must have access to a personal computer and the Internet. E-mail, Internet, and Webpage accounts are free to enrolled Florida Community College at Jacksonville students, faculty and staff. Please visit the following website to obtain information on student internet accounts: http://www.fccj.edu/current/stucomputing/index.html. At minimum, you must know how to navigate the Internet, use e-mail, use a word-processing software, and store and retrieve files.

See the telecourses pages for cable and other technical requirements related to telecourses.

  • Pay attention to orientation dates, and other required meetings. If the Schedule Notes in Artemis indicate a "mandatory orientation" for a distance learning course, even if that is the only meeting of the semester, it is still mandatory. Some online courses require an orientation, others offer an "optional" orientation. If labs, on-site testing, or other meetings are required this will be clearly specified in the Schedule Notes. Likewise, if an online course requires no on-site meetings, this will also be specified with a note "Orientation, coursework, and testing online."
