Elmhurst College Distance Learning

Elmhurst College was founded in 1871 as a private, four-year college associated with the United Church of Christ.  The curriculum is comprised of liberal arts and pre-professional training to ready students for continuous learning, volunteerism, and accomplishment.  Their campus is a meeting ground for the unique array of individuals from various cultures and classes.  Elmhurst describes its happenings simply as the Elmhurst Experience.  The Elmhurst Experience relates to a modern day viewpoint of liberal learning.  Its defining characteristics include student self-actualization and practice for real-world professional environments.  The ultimate ambition is to inform the entire student as a person and prepare them for the international interconnectedness of today’s society.  Notable alumni include a WEC fighter, Ricardo Lamas as well as the co-founder and director of Showchoir Camps of America, Incorporated, Susan Moninger whose voice can be heard in jingles for companies such as McDonald’s, Green Giant, Miller, and Allstate.

The school is located in Elmhurst, Illinois which is a suburb of Chicago.  According to the 2006 Special Census, the population of Elmhurst was 43,298.  Points of interest in Elmhurst include the York Theater, the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art, the Wilder Park Conservatory, and the Elmhurst Historical Museum.  The Elmhurst College is also only a 30-minute drive away from Chicago, the Windy City.  Known for its exquisite downtown area, the Chicago Theatre, Millennium Park, and the Willis Tower, Chicago is an exciting place to visit.

Elmhurst College offers more than 50 majors and nine graduate programs.  The student-to-faculty ratio is a low 13:1, the average class size is 18 students, and the largest class is ever only 35 students.  In addition, over 100 campus activities, including 18 athletic teams, are available to further enrich the student experience.  Graduate programs include Computer Information Systems, English Studies, Professional Accountancy, and Early Childhood Special Education.  Students aspiring to a postsecondary education at Elmhurst can also choose from a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Nursing, as well as Teacher Leadership.

The Master’s in Computer Information Systems is available completely as a distance learning degree.  Students interested in such a program can expect to learn how to be a leader in computer communications which requires much more than technical savvy.  The degree is recognized as an “MBA for the 21st Century” also known as a Professional Science Master’s (PSM) degree.  Notable alumni of the program have gone on to careers in leading companies such as Americaneagle.com, CME Group, Exelon Corporation, United Airlines, and Argonne National Laboratory.

An Elmhurst College education is a very sound investment.  However, to meet future goals, the school works hard to ensure that tuition is affordable to everyone.  They offer a wide array of need- and merit-based financial aid programs which include scholarships, grants, loans, and student employment.  98 percent of full-time students received some financial help in 2010 with the average amount of assistance totaling $19,600.
