Recommendations for Online Course Web Page

All instructor Web pages are listed at http://www.fccj.edu/current/fac_staffweb/index.html

  • Best times/methods to contact you

  • Generally how soon a student can expect a response from you (ie. 48 hours, 2 working days, etc.)

  • Title, course number (ie. OST 1100), and Ref # of the course(s) you are offering online

  • List any required orientation meeting or on-campus meetings for this course

  • Specify whether the testing is online or on campus or a combination

  • Please specify that students should contact you if the orientation meeting conflicts with another class that they must attend

  • Specify when access to the course will be made available to registered AND paid students; and how to gain access (ie. Students won't be given access until the first day of the term)

  • List any college prerequisites for the course

  • Required course materials (textbooks, software, etc.) and whether you are using online textbooks or printed textbooks or both

  • Mention that students can order textbooks online (see our Webpage) or stop by a campus bookstore and find the online course textbooks in the Distance Learning section

  • Specify what course management tool you are using (Blackboard)

  • College Honor Code

  • Test Location form if you are not using Online Testing (call/e-mail our office if you need us to send you a sample Test Location form for students to complete and return to you)

  • Specify how students will receive test/project grades (ie. via e-mail, postal service, etc.) and when to expect grades (ie. Within two weeks of submitting project/test, etc.)

  • Deadline to drop or withdraw from course

  • Information on the "AW" policy and deadline

  • Information on use of "IW" if you plan to have that option in your course

  • Statement that urges students to check the syllabus section of your course weekly (in case you change an assignment or deadline)
