Drexel University has been around for a long time. It’s a private university, founded in Philadelphia way back in 1891, and in 1996 it began its distance learning program. It’s an old school, and in relative terms it’s a very old and established on-line program (having been around for almost twenty years, its one of the oldest programs on the net). There are over one hundred different degrees and certificates available through Drexel, giving it one of the most well-rounded curriculums you can find.
Drexel University, which calls itself “Philadelphia’s technological university”, has been accredited by no less than twelve different governing bodies, and was also named as one of Americas top colleges by U.S. News and World Report. For a full list of their accreditations, to make sure this is a school that works for you, check here.
There are fifteen different bachelor’s degree programs available through Drexel, in ten different fields: Business, Communications, Criminal Justice, Education, Information Sciences and Systems, Nursing and Health Professions, Psychology, Technology, Professional Studies, and General Studies.
For a Masters degree on line program, there are over forty different ones to choose from, in Business, Clinical Research, Education, Engineering, Information Science and Systems, and Nursing and Health Professions. They are also one of the few schools to offer a Doctorate program, with a degree of Doctor of Nursing Practice available for students.
Their array of professional and graduate certificates is quite large, including some very unique programs, like a certificate in LGBT Health (that’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transexual health), a certificate in Gaming and Casino Operations, and a certificate in Homeland Security Management. Examples of other certificate programs they offer are Sustainable Green Construction, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Adult Education, Clinical Trials Research, Emergency Management, and Computer Security Technology. These are just a handful of the dozens of programs Drexel offers.
One of the things that impressed me about the Drexel University website was that it actually lists the prices for their degrees and credit hours. If you’ve done any research at all, you know that most sites will tell you everything BUT the cost, because they want to get you on a mailing list and not scare you away with the dollar signs. Let’s face it, college isn’t cheap, and attending a good college is even less cheap.
Drexel, however, says up front that different degree programs have different tuition rates, and they break down the costs for each. For example, A Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice takes one hundred and eighty two credit hours to graduate, and currently the cost is $408 per credit hour (this includes a discount for new online students, normally the cost is $680 per credit),
For a Masters degree in Sports Management, it requires forty five credit hours, or fifteen courses. The cost per credit hour is $1,045. A Graduate certificate in engineering management costs the same per credit, but only requires twelve credits. For more financial info, click here.
