Franciscan University of Steubenville is a Roman Catholic University founded by the Franciscan Friars of the Third Order Regular in 1946. The school prepares its graduates to continue their education in some of the very competitive Catholic graduate programs such as Notre Dame if they so choose and qualify. Steubenville is a small Ohio town which is sometimes mentioned as being included in the “Pittsburgh Tri-State area” even though it is in another state. Students attending this University get a feel for smaller town, close community campus life, while only a drive away from the exciting art, culture, music, and sports related activities of the urban Pittsburgh setting. Steubenville is dubbed the “City of Murals,” as it’s downtown displays close to thirty of them.
In the 2011 U.S. World and New Report’s “Best Colleges,” Franciscan University of Steubenville is ranked in the top tier for the category of Master’s Colleges in the Midwest. The Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic College ranks it in the top twenty-one Catholic Colleges in the nation, and the Young America’s Foundation lists it in the top ten for conservative colleges. The University hold accreditation from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Franciscan University of Steubensville offers one program completely online, the Master of Art in Theology.
