Full Sail University Distance Learning

Full Sail University is a for-profit educational institution, located in Winter Park, FL, near Orlando. It was founded in 1979 with the intention of offering sound recording education, as The Full Sail Recording Workshop, in Dayton, Ohio. The school moved to Florida in 1980 and gradually over the course of ten years added video, film, entertainment, and media production courses. Their online school, called Full Sail University Online, was launched in 2007. The school has associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees in several areas of art, design, sound and production. Full Sail holds national accreditation from the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges. They are not regionally accredited, so their credits do not transfer easily. Over 11,000 students attend their on-campus and online programs, and Full Sail has graduated more than 34,500 students who work in the fields of film, radio, online marketing, design, Hollywood, and sound production studios. The facilities on Full Sail campus are of the highest quality, and students will get a real accurate experience of working in the entertainment industry during their stay there.

Studying these types of fields in Orlando certainly has its benefits, and graduates of Full Sail have worked on Oscar and Emmy winning projects. Orlando is an international destination, and has a huge technology park, research centers, and is a major hub for the entertainment industry. Universal Studios, Disney, the Florida Film Festival, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the World Ballet Competition, and the Orlando International Fringe Theater Festival are just some of the internationally acclaimed cultural events and institutions that students can experience while studying there. The unemployment rate in Orlando has generally been lower than the national average.

There are several degree options available through distance learning at Full Sail. These include Bachelor of Art, and Bachelor of Science degrees in the following areas: Computer Animation, Entertainment Business, Game Art, Game Design, Graphic Design, Internet Marketing, Music Business, Music Production, Web Design and Development, and Digital Cinematography. Master level degree programs are: Education Media Design and Technology, Entertainment Business, Internet Marketing, Creative Writing, and Media Design. There are many other degree options that are available only on campus, and Full Sail is constantly adding to their course selection, as they are leaders in the type of education that they provide. The schools stays current with the industry, computer, and technological changes, and have the cutting edge Full Sail Studios Gateway Project, which exists as a performance venue, game production studio, recording studio, and an extended on-campus professional studio that students have access to during their educational development. It has the most state of the art and updated technology that graduates will be using when they become employed in their fields.

The cost of attending Full Sail varies by program of study, and ranges from $7,786 to $15,5000 per semester. There are significant supply costs at a school of this nature. Grants and loans are available, and according to the school, most attendees have access to some amount of aid. Scholarships available include the Full Sail Alumni Scholarship, the Merit Scholarship, the Entertainment and Media Industry for Women Scholarship, the Hall of Fame Scholarship, and the Platinum Dream Scholarship.
