Gardner-Webb University is a private school in Boiling Springs, North Carolina. Boiling Springs is just forty miles west of Charlotte, North Carolina. It is primarily a liberal arts school dedicated to teaching its students communication and logic. It holds accreditation from many institutions including the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, the National Association of Schools of Music, and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commision. The School of Divinity, the School of Business and the Athletic Training Program are properly accredited as well.
Garnder-Webb began as a boarding school and eventually became a junior college. It was founded by the Kings Baptist Association in 1903, and the mission of the school is to provide a solid Christian education for students to prepare to become leaders in various segments of society upon graduation. In the 1980s Gardner-Webb began to offer Master degree programs, and today there are even doctoral programs. Although the school has seen many changes in the last century, it still remains connected to the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina.
Gardner-Webb has fourteen departments and schools: the Godbold School of Business, Communication Studies Department, Music and Fine Arts Department, Mathematics Department, Natural Sciences Department, The School of Nursing, The School of Psychology, Physical Education-Wellness and Sports Studies Department, Religious Studies Department, Social Studies Department, World Languages Department, and the School of Divinity. These schools offer thirty-nine majors and over forty minors. Popular majors include Accounting, Economics, Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, Elementary Education, Fine Art, Music, Sacred Music, Mathematics, Biology, Nursing, Psychology, Biblical Languages and Literature, Education Studies, Social Sciences, and Teacher Licensure. The school also offers American Sign Language as a degree option.
There are several courses online, and there are a few distance learning degree programs available at Gardner-Webb. Students can pursue a Master of Business Administration online, as well as an International Master of Business Administration, and a Master of Accountancy. In addition to these online programs, Gardner-Webb also has an Honors Program, ROTC, Study Abroad opportunities, Degree Completion Programs, Graduate Executive Management programs, a Writing Center, Learning Assistance Programs, and many student run organizations. Student Ministries is one such popular organization students are encouraged to participate in. It is an umbrella organization for several groups including The Verge, F.O.C.U.S., and other groups. Students can also choose to go on missions if they so desire.
Full time tuition for students attending Gardner-Webb is approximately $11,010 per year. To be considered as a full time student, one must be enrolled in at least ten to eighteen hours of coursework. Part-time students pay $357 per credit hour each semester. Additional fees are required, and room and board range depending on various plans but approximate at just under $4,000. Financial aid is available to students based on need and is also awarded based on merit. Loans, grants, and scholarships are available to many of the students attending Garner-Webb.
