Georgetown University is a private Jesuit University, earning consistent rankings in the top five overall for Universities in the Southeastern Region of the United States. It is the oldest Catholic university in the nation, founded in 1789 by Father John Carroll, who was the first American Bishop. Georgetown is known for its programs in law and foreign affairs, however many of its one-hundred and eighty academic programs are highly ranked and even internationally acclaimed. The school is also known for its athletic teams, particularly basketball, where they complete in the Big East Conference. Notable alumni are former President Bill Clinton, United States Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, and the heads of state of six countries.

Georgetown University has 7,092 undergraduate students and 5,330 graduate students on the main campus , which is located in the Georgetown district of Washington, D.C. There are no distance learning degree options offered solely online at Georgetown University, however certain classes may be taken online. Check with each department to determine availability. The most popular areas of study at Georgetown are the Social Sciences, Business, Marketing, English, Health Professions, and Foreign Languages and Literature. Other degree options include Music, Art, American Studies, Arabic, Chinese, Portugese, Chemistry, Anthropology, International Public Health and Nursing.
