Grinnell College is a private co-educational residential liberal arts and science college located in the city of Grinnell, Iowa. Grinnell College was founded by a group of New England pioneers back in the year 1846. The institution was originally known as the Trustees of Iowa College. Although Grinnell College does not currently offer online or distance learning programs to students there are still many different types of scholastic opportunities for students to enroll in as well as many events and activities to join in on. This college has offers many opportunities to those students eager to further overall potential.
Today the current enrollment at Grinnell College is approximately measured at 1688 students attending classes on campus. At this time there are approximately 156 full time employed faculty and 43 faculty members employed part time teaching these students, while the student to faculty ratio is nine to one. Grinnell College offers undergraduate degrees to students through their various academic programs on campus and is renowned as one of the best undergraduate institutions in the country. Grinnell College offers Bachelor of Arts degrees in over 20 different majors of study in 30 diverse areas of interest. Grinnell College provides classes in the divisions of social studies, humanities, science, interdisciplinary majors and concentrations and some distinguished programs as well. Some of the departments within these division are the departments of art, biology, philosophy, music, sociology, East Asian studies, physics, mathematics, statistics, chemistry and global developmental studies to name a few. There are still many different departments at Grinnell College offering students wide variety of majors to enroll in to pursue their academic and vocational aspirations.
The rural campus consists of about 120 acres and is located just an hour east of Des Moines and less than a five hour drive from the cities of Kansas City, Chicago, Omaha, and St Louis. There are 64 buildings on campus consisting of 19 residence halls, an enormous 365 acre environmental research center as well as many others. There are currently many different student groups to choose from at Grinnell College. Aside from these organizations, Grinnell College provides athletics for students to compete in; there are currently several teams available to students as the Grinnell College is a member of the National Collegiate Athletics Association. On campus there is a collection of libraries comprising of the Music Library, the Kistle Science Library, and the Burling Library. These are just some of the options available to students to keep active on campus there are still many more.
At this time there are no online or distance learning programs currently available for students at this college, however there are benefits Grinnell College has to offer students on campus. The quality education here increases the chances for academic prosperity for the future and there are many options available throughout the year to keep even the most active students pleased.
