Formerly known solely as the California College for Health Sciences, Independence University has over 30 years of providing quality degrees in health care entirely through distance learning. Independence University strives to help students to gain professional and financial independence by offering degrees at the associate’s, bachelor’s and master’s level in high-demand fields. In fact, Independence University was the first and remains the only college to have a Respiratory Therapy program that is accredited to be taught entirely through distance learning! Independence University also offers more health care programs taught via distance learning than any other private or public university, and has recently increased its distance learning options by adding the College of Business.
Independence University is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC) and is a member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to these accreditations, Independence University’s Respiratory Therapy programs are accredited through the Commission for Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CARC). Furthermore, many states will have requirements for students to take and pass exams for licensing so that they can practice in their home state or other prospective locations.
Independence University offers degrees at the associate’s, bachelor’s and master’s levels through distance learning. Independence University offers associate’s degrees in Allied Health and Advanced Respiratory Care. Students who successfully complete the Associates in Advanced Respiratory Care program are eligible to sit for the National Board for Respiratory Care’s entry-level and advanced practitioner exams. Students who already possess the entry-level certification are eligible to apply for transfer credit for up to half of the program. Concentrations in the Associates in Allied Health program include Anesthesiology, Ambulatory Care, Cardiovascular Technology, Laboratory Technology, Histological Technology, and Medical Assisting. Students are also able to transfer credit from other Allied Health training to the program for a reduced course load required to graduate.
Bachelor’s degrees are available for Nursing (BSN), Respiratory Care, and Health Services Management. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, job growth for Nurses is expected to be excellent, and many nursing positions require a Bachelor’s degree for professional advancement. The Bachelors in Health Services Management will provide students with the administrative and management skills necessary to advance in their careers as Clinical Managers.
Graduate degrees at Independence University include master’s degrees in Public Health (MPH) and Health Care Administration. The Masters in Health Care Administration will train health care leaders in management positions with skills in budgeting, accounting, finance, management, marketing, and program evaluation. As the health care industry grows and expands, the need for trained and qualified leaders will grow also. The College of Business also offers degrees in General Business at the associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s (MBA) levels.
Tuition and fees on average are less than $10,000 per year. Financial aid is available in the form of in-house and private loans, institutional grants, and employer or military reimbursements. Additionally, discounts are offered for military personnel and students who elect to pay their tuition in advance.
