Indiana University of Pennsylvania is a large, public university, located in Pennsylvania’s Indiana County, that is a part of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. IUP’s atmosphere is that of a community centered around its students and its research. It has been nationally recognized for programs such as its Honors college, or it’s doctoral programs and offers renowned quality at the price of a public institution with the backing of the PaSSHE. Faculty includes some of the best instructors of their fields, such as Rome Prize winners, and instructors who have been recognized with Fulbright Scholarships.
IUP is dedicated to each and every student that enrolls on campus and happily offers distance education programs for geographically isolated students, professionals, and working adults. There are also programs that can simply serve as a whetstone for skilled employees that want to further their qualifications, or students who just want to try out the college experience.
Some of the subjects available for online enrollment are Art History, Physics, Theater, Criminology, Finance & Legal Studies, Physics, Music, over nine areas of Business, and Journalism. Some course titles include International Business, Introduction to Music, World Politics, Oceans & Atmospheres, Elements of Research, Introduction to Entrepreneurship, and Labor Relations – Practice & Administration. Some students may have to occasionally visit campus to meet with their instructor, but students enrolling from outside the state can make arrangements to have their exams proctored, or meetings held over video-conference.
Degree programs available online are a Master of Arts in Criminology and a Master of Science in Safety Sciences. Certificates are available, such as the Certificate of Recognition in Safety Sciences, and the Certificate of Recognition in Information Assurance. IUP also makes resources plentiful to ensure that nothing goes wrong in a student’s distance education. For students who aren’t completely sure how to make use of their computer, there is an IT Support Center, and publications like a Technology Guide to aid them through their use of technology as the courses progress.
Enrollment at the university as overtaken 15,000 students and the university is always accepting more students from abroad, as they have already taken students in from 50 states and even more countries around the globe. Tuition varies depending on the status of the student’s residency. Distance learners enrolling from Pennsylvania pay $5,358 per year full-time, and part-time learners pay $223 per credit hour. Students enrolling from outside of the state pay $13,396 per year full-time and $558 per credit hour part-time. Financial aid is made very available at the university mostly in the form of institutional grants, but federal, state, local, and external grants are also available.
Soon the university will feature baccalaureate programs for students to earn a Bachelor of Science. Indiana University of Pennsylvania has locations all throughout Pennsylvania and will continue to expand its services.
