Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne is the largest university in northeast Indiana, offering more than 200 IU and Purdue degrees and certificates. It is the university’s belief that learning starts in the classroom, but continues with the kind of hands-on experience that employers want and students seek. They want students to grasp the theory behind why things work, then discover the reality of how they work through projects, research opportunities, internships, and field experience. Small classes taught by top professors put the student on a first-name basis with experts in their field, and build contacts that last throughout their career.
Indiana University and Purdue University opened the combined campus of IPFW in 1964, after many years of offering courses at separate locations in Fort Wayne. During development in the 1970’s, it was a time of rapid growth, accompanied by the formal merger of the campus administration in 1975. A regional campus of both Indiana University and Purdue University, IPFW is managed by Purdue University under the terms of a management agreement that is renewed every five years as of present date. By the 1980’s, an academic structure was created to emphasize relationships among departments rather than relationships of departments to Indiana or Purdue mission assignments. IPFW aggressively grew its facilities to handle the increasing crowd of students, which totaled over 10,500 by 2000. The campus set a new enrollment record in 2010-2011 of 14,192 total students.
IPFW does offer a splendid array of online courses from and beyond the university. The flexibility of online learning helps the student design their course schedule around their life. At the student’s convenience, IPFW offers over 150 online courses per semester. One might also take online minors and certificates that may be built into a degree with the benefit of earning additional credentials, or they even explore the benefits of the General Studies online degree also offered at IPFW.
Students can earn their Bachelor’s degree in General studies. In addition, they can minor in Psychology and Business Studies for any online degrees. Also available online are programs for an Associate of Arts in General Studies, an Associate in Business, and an Associate in Psychology.
Tuition fees are 324.75$ per credit hour seeking to enroll in online learning classes. The majority of students on campus are receiving some form of financial aid, with some students receiving a combination of state, local, and federal aid usually tied with easily available loans. The college boasts over 12,000 students with a student-to-faculty ratio of 22:1, leaving the atmosphere of Indiana University with a more traditional grouped approach to lectures and education.
