Iowa Central College Online is an award-winning distance learning associate’s degree program administered by Iowa Central Community College. The mission of Iowa Central Community College is to enrich the community by offering a student-centered education that is affordable, accessible, and adaptable. Classical and modern distance learning are 2 of the ways that Iowa Central Community College achieves this goal. Founded in 1966 as the merger between 3 junior colleges serving 9 counties in the Central Iowa community, Iowa Central Community College has more than 80 years of experience in distance learning. Made up of its founding campuses in Fort Dodge, Webster City, and Eagle Grove, which all date back to the early to mid 1920’s, Iowa Central Community College maintained campuses at each location.
Another satellite location was added in Storm Lake, Iowa in 1971, and entered into a “cooperative venture” with Buena Vista College to offer a bachelor’s degree through evening classes. Today, Iowa Central Community College utilizes the best of modern distance learning to offer associate’s degrees entirely online through Iowa Central College Online. Both on-campus and online programs are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, and are members of the North Central Association of the Higher L earning Commission.
With Iowa Central Community College’s strong foundation in distance learning, it is no surprise that Iowa Central College Online was ranked number 4 out of the top 25 online schools by the Guide to Online Schools. Iowa Central College Online was also praised by the Guide to Online Schools for being the most affordable out of the top 25 online schools, and for having some of the lowest class sizes. The Online Education Database (OEDb) praised Iowa Central College Online for having iNet, an easy to use distance learning technology.
Iowa Central College Online offers associate’s degrees in General Education, Criminal Justice, Computer Networking Technology, Business, Human Service, and Health Care Administration. The General Education degree prepares students to complete their foundational coursework and continue their studies at 4-year colleges and universities. The programs in Business and Human Services prepare students for entry-level careers in these respective fields, and also satisfy foundational course requirements for a 4-year degree in these areas of study at most colleges and universities.
The Health Care Administration program both prepares new professionals for entry-level careers, and allows existing professionals to further their education and credentials. The Criminal Justice program offers students a unique opportunity to study Homeland Security, as Iowa Central Community College hosts the Homeland Security Training Center for the State of Iowa. This unique opportunity allow students to study completely online to be first responders in Iowa.
Tuition for online classes is $295 per hour, and current and former military are charged a reduced rate of $250 per hour. Financial aid is available in the form of grants and loans, and can be obtained by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Each program has different hardware and software requirements that are not factored into tuition and fees.
