Feeling called to enter the ministry field? Then consider Lancaster Bible College and Graduate School, or LBC. The mission of Lancaster Bible College is to help students and graduates to “communicate the Bible and its principles” through ministry careers as pastors, worship leaders, missionaries, counselors, teachers, and coaches. Although some of these careers may not seem like obvious ministries, Lancaster Bible College recognizes the influence that these professionals can have in the lives of those they serve.
Founded in 1933 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, LBC is now available around the world thanks to advances in distance learning technology. Students can now earn degrees in Bible and other service-oriented occupations through LBCOnline, the distance learning branch of Lancaster Bible College. LBCOnline promises to offer distance learning students the same rigorous and accredited curriculum as on-campus students. Distance learning courses are taught asynchronously, which means students “attend” class on their own time throughout the week. This makes Lancaster Bible College an attractive opportunity for those wishing to change or further their career, enter the ministry or missionary field, or otherwise deepen their knowledge of the Bible for personal or professional reasons.
There are many exciting degree options for those who wish to enter ministry or service professions. Degrees are offered at the associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s level. Graduate degrees include the Master of Education (MEd) and Master of Arts (MA). The MEd degrees include Teacher and School Counseling Certifications. The Master of Arts degrees include Bible, Ministry Leadership, and Mental Health and Marriage and Family Counseling. At the undergraduate level, the Associate of Science in Bible (ASB) is a flexible option. Electives can be taken in Church and Ministry Leadership, Counseling and Social Work, Health and Physical Education, Teacher Education, Worship and Performing Arts, and Bible Ministries. The Bachelor of Science in Bible (BSB) is also available. The BSB allows students to earn a more concentrated degree in the same areas as the ASB degree, and focus on areas for specific study.
Each department has many professional concentrations available for undergraduate study. Concentrations for Church and Ministry Leadership include Church-Planting, Pastoral Ministry, Pre-Seminary, and Ministries for Children, Families, Students, and Women. Concentrations for Counseling and Social Work include Social Work and Mental Health, Marriage and Family, and School Counseling. The Teacher Education program awards students a Bachelor of Science in Education (BSEd) and concentrations include Bible Education (K-12), and Elementary Education. Concentrations for Health and Physical Education include Sports Management and Ministry and Health and Physical Education which can be combined with a BSEd. Concentrations for Worship and Performing Arts include Music Education, Music Performance, and Worship Arts. The Bible Ministries program allows students to take the same curriculum as the other majors, but with 40 elective hours from any of the professional programs.
Lancaster Bible College distance learning holds many distinctive accreditations. These include the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA) and the Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE). LBC has also received approval by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).
