Massachusetts Maritime Academy Distance Learning

Massachusetts Maritime Academy is an accredited state-supported college located at Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts. The academy is regionally accredited and will soon gain accreditation from the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. Massachusetts Maritime offers curriculum of subjects like International Business, Marine Engineering, Environmental Science, Maritime Transportation, Marine Biology, and a score of subjects not listed here. The academy offers education using state of the art equipment, highly qualified faculty, and rigorous academics aimed at giving students a top education in the marine sciences and maritime subjects.

The academy does feature online courses that can be applied towards a degree or used individually to enhance an existing degree. All online courses offered at Massachusetts Maritime share the same accreditation as the academy itself and are backed with the instruction of MMA instructors. Not much information about this is published online. More information about online courses and distance offerings can be obtained by contacting Massachusetts Maritime Academy staff directly.

Distance degrees have not yet been made available by the academy. However, online courses are almost always the precursor for online degrees. As the online curriculum expands, the requisites for a growing number of degrees will be satisfied and distance learners can expect this opportunity to arise in the near future.

The most popular field of study at MMA is Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering. These two linked fields share courses all throughout the curriculum offered at this academy and receive emphatic attention from the academy. This has allowed the academy to achieve great heights in the standard of education with respect to said fields of study. Other engineering programs are also offered to cover the spread between constructive marine sciences and marine applications. Other popular majors include Marine Science, Merchant Marine Officer, Environmental Studies, and International Business/Trade/Commerce.

Since the Massachusetts Maritime Academy is supported by the state, tuition for in-state residents is extremely low at the undergraduate level. In-state undergraduate students pay $1,183 per year full-time and $228 per credit hour part-time. Out-of-state undergraduate students pay $13,220 per year full-time and the same rates for part-time enrollment. Graduate students pay $27,670 per year full-time and $907 per credit hour part-time. The same rates apply to out-of-state graduate students.

Institutional grants have been authorized through the academy for approximately 1 out of 6 students. Federal grants have supplied 1 out of 10 students whereas state and local grants have supplied 1 out of 4 on a yearly basis. The average range of students receiving some form of financial aid is 9 out of 10.

Massachusetts Maritime Academy is one of the leading colleges offering nautical degrees and training in New England. For students that want to major in anything from Maritime Transportation to Marine Engineering, there are individual programs devised for each specific study. For distance learners, it will be in the near future that you will be able to earn your degree from the academy 100% online.
