National Defense University Distance Learning

The National Defense University is a higher education institution that receives funding from the United States Department of Defense and is located in Fort Lesley McNair, Washington. The university is fully accredited and is operated at the graduate level. Students that attend the National Defense University can pursue their master’s at any of the 13 colleges and universities that NDU collaborates with to provide more educational opportunities. Students pursue a wide variety of topics under the guise of National Security and can advance to positions of employment in both private and public security jobs.

There is no explicit mention of a distance learning program hosted at the National Defense University, although, this does not bar the possibility of an online program appearing in the near future. Many military, national defense, and homeland security institutions of higher learning have successfully assembled online programs for distance learners to partake in. Distance learners can expect opportunities to arise from NDU soon enough.

The National Defense University is comprised mainly of five smaller, specialized colleges. The College of International Security Affairs is a college that focuses on security studies and strategic theory equipping students with skills in argumentation, analysis, and research. Some majors offered at CISA include International Counterterrorism, International Security Studies, Stabilization & Reconstruction, Homeland Defense, and Homeland Security.

Another subsequent college of NDU is called the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. Here, civilian government workers, foreign nationals, members of the armed forces, and members of private industry are supplied with graduate level education. The focus of ICAF is to prepare students for leadership and development in the field of national security and strategy.

There is also the Information Resources Management College which aims its studies at preparing leaders of various backgrounds to direct componential information pertaining to national power through strategic and technological leverage. Process Management, Information Technology, Policy & Security, Transformation, and Acquisition Processes Management are all subjects and majors taught specifically by IRMC.

The fourth of NDU’s subsidiary colleges is the Joint Forces Staff College. This college educates National Security professionals in the execution and planning of multinational, joint, and interagency operations. Students learn about the necessary skills of management, execution, and collaboration with other sources of operation and intelligence.

The last of the five colleges is the National War College. This college is designed to educate the future leaders and administrators of the State Department, Armed Forces, and civilian agencies at the highest level of policy. NWC supplies a senior-level study course in National Security and Strategy for federal officials and military officers.

The National Defense University is not a university for many. Instead, students that want to learn the operations and methods of military, armed forces, intelligence, and national defense operation should attend the National Defense University if they want to achieve high ranking positions in these fields. For distance learners eager to attend and get ahead, online classes and programs will appear in the near future.
