Northern Illinois University a university of public status that is located in Dekalb, Illinois. Northern Illinois University is home to over 24,000 students and provides each and every one of them with comprehensive teaching, a wide curriculum, quality instruction, and research opportunities in many different fields. To start with, there is a large and growing selection of online courses for distance learners to choose from. All credits earned online at NIU are backed by the accreditation that the university continually receives and are backed by quality instruction that would otherwise be received on campus. Course titles include, but are not limited to Survey of Business Economics, the Nature of Adult and Higher Education, Crisis Intervention, Human Resource Development, Professional Standard Instructional Technology, Supervision in Industry, and Industrial Systems Management.

Following this course selection is a selection of online degree programs designed with the distance learner in mind. There are three such degrees that exist at the baccalaureate level: a Bachelor of General Studies in Health & Human Sciences, a Bachelor of General Studies in Liberal Arts & Sciences, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. There are also some certificate programs available for a variety of specifications, like Geographic Information Systems. All of these programs are designed to be taken at a standard pace but can be arranged for accelerated study allowing the student to obtain their degree quicker. It should be noted that these programs are designed for degree completion and build upon a previous associate’s degree.

Since Northeastern Illinois University is publicly supported, tuition rates are dependent upon the student’s status of residency. Resident/Non-resident undergraduate students should expect to pay $6,720/$13,440 per year when enrolling full-time and $315/$564 per credit hour when enrolling part-time. Resident/Non-resident graduate students should expect to pay $6,096/$12,192 per credit hour when enrolling full-time and $320/$574 per credit hour when enrolling part-time.

Federal grants are dispersed to approximately 3 out of 10 students in any given year. State and local sources supply approximately 4 out of 10 students with grants and awards for tuition purposes. Institutional grants, like scholarships, need-based grants, and merit-based awards are allotted to about 1 in 5 students attending Northeastern Illinois.
