Oklahoma Panhandle State University is more than just a mouthful of a name and has been providing Bachelor level education (as well as Associate degree programs)to students since 1909 when it was established as the Panhandle Agricultural Institute (it offered secondary agricultural education). Slowly dropping the Agricultural part of the name over the years, OPSU now offers undergraduate education to almost 1400 students with a unique geographical isolation that few colleges have (it’s home in Goodwell, OK puts it 150 miles away from the next nearest four year degree granting school).
Looking to “build on its century long legacy of educational quality and service, while addressing emerging challenges and opportunities”, OPSU offers students an education helpful not only for residents of the panhandle area (agriculture is still a popular major), but learners around the world (they take pride in their distance learning classes and continuing education online). Popular majors at OPSU include education, business, agriculture (popular for an area rife with animal farms and huge farming operations), and nursing (a quality, recognized program here). There are six total schools here, offering nearly 100 different Bachelor and Associate degree programs, as well as several pre-professional programs.
OPSU has “a long history of providing high quality educational opportunities to students from a wide variety of backgrounds at a very competitive price” and their online options continue this storied past. Distance learning courses, both for credit and for non-credit, personal education, are offered at OPSU, asynchronous and at an “affordable, competitive cost” that ensures no intellectual curiosity is left unanswered. Accredited and transferable, OPSU online courses are perfect for either a working adult or a student looking to add just one more class into an already busy schedule.
Oklahoma Panhandle also as an online Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program and is one of the only schools in the nation to offer ALL nursing classes online. The OPSU Nursing program is designed specifically for distance learning students and although the student is never required to come to campus, clinical labs are necessary and are scheduled in areas near where the distance learner is located. Most BSN courses are offered every semester, there are flexible credit transfer policies, and all the benefits of traditional learning (i.e. advisement, teacher-student interactions, quality of education) are offered here online.
There is also the online OPSU Guymon Classroom, offering virtual education for both credit and non-credit knowledge seekers, part of the schools dedication to “helping you further your education” any way they can. Some classes are offered evenings as well and offerings change regularly, but there is also the option of suggesting a class for OPSU to run, allowing students to be more in control of what they are taught at times. Overall, there are 340+ online classes offered.
Among other reasons to attend Oklahoma Panhandle State are the rodeo team (how many schools have both a men’s and women’s team… or one at all), the price (lowest tuition among Oklahoma colleges), and the accessibility to education, both online and traditionally. Friendly to your wallet and good for you brain, OPSU looks to make its mark on education for another century.
