Oklahoma Wesleyan University distance learning, or OKWU, is a private evangelical Christian liberal arts university located in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. OKWU has a long history in providing an excellent education from a Christian world-view under the leadership of the Wesleyan Church. OKWU is the result of the merger of 4 Bible College across the US. Former Bible colleges were located in Kansas, Colorado, Pasadena, California (founded 1917), El Monte, California. The oldest campus was founded in 1909, and the series of mergers began in 1959 and ended in 1972. Now, students from all over the world can receive a liberal arts degree with a Christian perspective from OKWU through distance learning.
OKWU is still overseen by the Wesleyan Church. As such, Jesus Christ and Christian principles are central to the teaching and mission of OKWU; their tagline is “Impacting culture with the Lordship of Jesus Christ.” The mission of OKWU is to model a way of thought, life and faith by providing a Christian education in a caring environment. The 4 pillars that are central to this mission are the “primacy of Jesus, priority of scripture, pursuit of truth, and practice of wisdom.”
True to its founding, OKWU continues to offer non-traditional students and adult learners the opportunity to earn degrees through distance learning. Approximately half of OKWU’s 960 students attend satellite campuses around Oklahoma. Furthermore, modern distance learning online allows students from any location and schedule to earn a degree at OKWU Online. Both types of distance learning programs are overseen by Adult and Graduate Studies. Furthermore, OKWU is accredited by the North Central Association, and OKWU’s Business and Nursing programs are accredited by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) and the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Distance learning degrees are offered at the undergraduate and graduate levels. There are 2 options for associate’s degrees through distance learning. Students can earn an Associate of Arts (AA) in General Studies through the STEP Program. Prospective students can also earn an Associate’s in Early Childhood, or AEC, degree through distance learning. Bachelor’s degrees are also available through distance learning online. Online bachelor’s degrees include the RN to BSN for associate’s level Registered Nurses, as well as Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees in Business Administration, Church Administration and Leadership, Organizational Management and Ethics, and Psychology Studies with a Human Resources minor.
Graduate degrees are also offered through distance learning online. Graduate degrees include the Master of Business Administration. There are 2 tracks for prospective graduate students to choose from. The first is the business track with concentrations in Human Resources, Finance, or Marketing. The second track is in Healthcare Administration with a concentration Nursing Management.
Financial aid is available to those who qualify in the form of grants, scholarships and loans. Approximately 99% of OKWU students receive some type of financial aid. Furthermore, OKWU is a Yellow Ribbon Program participant and offers discounted tuition and tuition assistance for qualifying military personnel and their family members.
