Park University Distance Learning

Park University is a bastion of distance learning, a massive multi-location juggernaut offering quality education to a huge student body of traditional and online learners. The flagship campus in Parkville, Missouri was established in 1875 and is located about 10 minutes from downtown Kansas City (location of their Graduate School). Today, that home campus serves about 1250 students annually, but the total student enrollment at Park is more around 13,000, including working adults, military personnel, and a mind-boggling large online community.

There are too many degree options here to count, spread out over the many campuses and throughout the Internet. Undergraduate and graduate, Associates to Doctorate, this “electronic university” has cultivated a diverse learning environment, with a globalization that is essential to their still growing online learning and attracts traditional learners to U.S. campuses from over 100 countries.

Park University is a wealth of online degree and certifications, part of its 136 year dedication to “academic excellence and…commitment to ifelong learning”. Operating in association with Quality Matters (a project that creates a “continuous improvement model for assuring the quality of online courses through a faculty review process”), Park offers 43 different online classes by Q.M. as certified online courses that are indistinguishable from traditional, on campus equivalents. Online classes are structured for accelerated, eight-week formats and are offered five times a year.

Distance learning degree options range from Associate to Master with new degree programs being added annually and a wealth of minors, allowing for numerous permutations. With locations in 21 states nationwide, with a grand total of 43 campuses, online and hybrid options give you a base to touch with outside the Internet, yet still close to home. Park’s School for Extended Learning offers 5 Associate degrees completely online (including Social Psychology and Information & Computer Science), another 2 B.A. programs in Psychology and Sociology (requiring a minor choice of study, also online), 12 B.S. degrees (with a Criminal Justice Administration program with 3 variations, and a Social Psychology degree that offers 4 different tracts), and 2 more B.S. Education degrees.

Then, there are the Masters programs, another 6 degrees, featuring an M.A. in Communication and Leadership, an M.B.A. with 4 concentration options, 2 M.Ed. programs (Adult Education and Teacher Leadership), a Master of Healthcare Leadership, and a Master of Public Affairs with 4 concentrations. This isn’t even mentioning their certifications (5 graduate and 2 undergrad) and continuing education offerings from the National Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependence and a course on Financial Management for Military Personnel.

Military learners are a vital part of Park’s student body, with the university establishing campuses on military installations across the U.S.. Working with any learner’s timetable is what sets Park apart, attracting “50,000 separate online enrollments [including] students from all military branches”. Sixty percent of students at Park take a mix of online AND face-to-face classes, with about half the traditional student population taking at least one online course in the accelerated format to augment their on campus schedule.

Online tutoring, online library access, online technical advisement, there are so many online tools and offerings that visiting the website is essential to getting a grasp of the full armament displayed. Overall, Park’s vision of being a “renowned international leader in providing innovative educational opportunities for learners within the global society” has led to an “entrepreneurial university” that has carved out a multi-faceted institution “engages in lifelong learning while serving a global community”.
