Saint Cloud State University is a baccalaureate university of public, state-supported status that is located in Saint Cloud, Minnesota. Saint Cloud State is part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. It is the second largest university is Minnesota and is offering a wide range of options for distance learners.

Saint Cloud State University features over 200 different courses for online study and eight different degree programs. Online course selection is very diverse, with a variety of subjects being covered. Courses can be taken in Biology, Counselor Education, Criminal Justice, Computer Science, Economics, Mass Communications and more.

Some course titles include, but are not limited to System Oriented Architectures, Grammar for Media Writers, Practicum in Educational Administration, Introduction to Rhetorical & Analytical Writing, Urban Site Development, Technical Research Experimentation, and Finite Mathematics. Distance learning courses aren’t only delivered over the Internet, there are courses that are broadcast through interactive television as well.

Tuition rates are varied and depend on a variety of factors. Interactive Television courses are $259.50 per credit for undergraduate students and $363.60 per credit for graduate students. Internship, Practicum, or Thesis courses are $275.75 per credit for undergraduate students and $378.45 for graduate students. Online/Guided Study courses are the same price for graduate and undergraduate students.

Students enrolled in the Master of Science in Applied Behavior Analysis program will pay $455 per credit hour. There does not appear to be a full-time flat rate for this program. There are also various fees that are added per credit hour for such things as Health Services, Student Union, Technology, MSUSA, and some others, but there are negligible.

Students can earn their Bachelor’s Degree in Community Psychology, Criminal Justice Studies, and Liberal & Professional Studies. Graduate students have the Master of Science in Applied Behavior Analysis, Master of Science in Criminal Justice Studies, Master of Science in Information Media, Instructional Design, & Training, and Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language at their disposal. All of these degree programs can be completed 100% online.

Financial aid is plentiful and is available to further offset the low rates of Saint Cloud State University learning. Federal grants are dispersed to 24% of all students, as a yearly average. State and local grants fill the pockets of an additional 31% of students attending Saint Cloud. The university itself supplies scholarships, grants, and awards to 21% of its students. This is a decent contribution, considering the fact that the average grant size is $2,517. For in-state students, this covers just about half of tuition costs. Federal aid can usually cover the rest.

When learning at a distance, a student may be concerned with the finalizing processes of earning a degree, passing a course, earning a credit, etc. Thankfully, Saint Cloud offers proctored exams that can be held at a location near the distance learner. This is in addition to the off-campus satellite sites that offer education to those near the university, but not near enough to commute sustainably.
