Saint Lawrence University is a mainly four-year college of the liberal arts with graduate programs that is located in Canton, New York. Saint Lawrence University has received accreditation from the Middle State Association of Colleges and Universities, and has been recognized several times by the state of New York for its quality in academics. Students can earn their Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, a Master of Education, or a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Educational Administration.
Saint Lawrence University has been named a “College of Distinction” by Student Horizons, an organization that selects schools in the bases of student engagement, outstanding teaching, inspiring atmosphere and community, and the successful outcomes of their programs. There are over 70 different majors, minors, and concentrations in fields that range from traditional to unusual. There are majors in standard college fields of study, like Chemistry and Economics, but there are majors in Outdoor Studies, Multifield Studies, and Japanese Studies as well.
Currently, these majors will have to be earned on campus, as there are currently no distance learning capabilities at the college just yet. Plans to initialize a distance learning have been announced for the near future. Thus, it is not a question of if, but when Saint Lawrence will introduce online learning.
Saint Lawrence is very culturally conscious and integrates linguistic, sociocultural, and historical studies that draw from a slew of foreign countries. This means that students not only learn about the world from a classroom, but can participate in study-abroad programs in 6 continents. Students have visited countries from Denmark all the way to Thailand.
Saint Lawrence awards financial aid each year that totals tens of millions of dollars. There are many different scholarships from which a student can benefit. One such scholarship is the Presidential Achievement Award which is based on many different factors and not just grade point average or SAT scores. There is also the Sesquicentennial Scholarship based on academic and co-curricular achievements, in addition to an assessment of the student’s character. This scholarship awards $80,000 over 4 years to first-year and transfer students.
There select graduate studies that have each seen careful installment, maintenance, and improvement over the course of their implementation. Students can earn a Master of Education in various concentrations, like School Counseling or Educational Leadership. There is also the Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling for those that want to pursue counseling studies without Education courses. For those who want a certificate instead of a degree, there is a Certificate of Advanced Studies available in various concentrations, like School Counseling an d School District Leadership.
Tuition for an undergraduate student demands $37,675 per year for full-time engagement. For part-time study, the per credit hour rate is $1,308. Graduates pay $785 per credit hour or $18,840 for full-time tuition.
