Savannah College of Art and Design Distance Learning (SCAD)

Undergraduate and graduate degrees are available to students everywhere through the Savannah College of Art and Design’s award-winning distance learning programs. SCAD was the first art and design university that won the Outstanding Distance Education Program from Instructional Technology Council.

The Savannah College of Art and Design offers graduate certificate distance learning courses in Digital Publishing Management, Historic Preservation, Interactive Design, and Interactive Preservation. They also offer a certificate in Digital Publishing. The digital publishing courses will teach students the fundamentals of design and publishing. They will also be introduced to standard equipment and technology relevant to the field.

Distance learning degrees are offered on the associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degree level at SCAD. A popular program is the Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communication with a concentration in Advertising. This is a 180 credit-hour course that prepares students to pursue an exciting career in advertising.

SCAD has the most comprehensive sequential art department in the nation. Distance learning students can earn both an undergraduate or graduate degree program in this unique field. Electives for this course include Manga, superhero comics, conceptual illustration, and story boarding. Graduates are well prepared to enter the fields of animation and comics.

Graphic design distance learning courses are offered on graduate and undergraduate levels. The students will collaborate with partners like Barnes and Nobles, JCB, and The American Red Cross to engage in special assignments of a commercial nature. The curriculum is current and is designed to inspire students to think on different levels and explore different perspectives. Those who earn one of these degrees will have the potential to bridge the gap between purpose and information and contribute new ideas and methods.

There are several other distance learning degree programs offered at SCAD. They include an M.A. in Arts Administration, M.A. in Design Management, M.A. in Illustration, and M.A. in Interior Design. A Bachelor of Arts in Photography or Interactive Design and Game Development are also available.

All of the courses offered online are ten weeks long. There are not specific times or dates where students must meet. SCAD recognizes the challenge working students face and make each class available around the clock for added flexibility and convenience. Each new student will attend an online orientation designed to help them familiarize themselves with the eLearning organization. Students can access their resources and classes from anywhere there is an Internet connection.

The online distance learning programs from SCAD have been recognized for being outstanding and comprehensive. The course-work is vigorous and challenges students to excel academically. Students who study online also have access to workshops, counseling, career guidance, the Virtual Lecture Hall, and Visual Resources Center. All of these elements combined with faculty dedicated to the success of each student make for an exceptional distance learning education. The Savannah College of Art and Design is fully accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
