Getting Started

Florida Community College at Jacksonville offers numerous online courses that are conveniently

available through the Internet. Online credit courses are offered through a course

management system - Blackboard. Students “attend” classes within this online

environment, which is based on a very flexible schedule.

Courses may include the use of e-mail, discussions, live chats, readings, Web resources, and

interactive quizzes, among other activities, so that many students feel as if they are interacting as

they would in an on-campus classroom. Instructors use a variety of learning methods and

assignments in online courses similar to on-campus classes, but with the added flexibility for those

who require this to continue their education.

As you proceed through this orientation, you will find helpful links, contact information, and video

demonstrations of actual courses. If you feel you need additional guidance, please contact the

Learner Support Center to speak with an advisor. Taking online courses may assist you in

achieving your educational goals on your time and at your pace!
