Songs about School

It’s easier said than done to push through the last couple months of school before we leave the door and hallways into childhood bliss. I firmly believe in moderation for everything. As quoted from The Shining, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” Although the connotation behind the quote is a bit creepy if you have seen the movie or at least know of it, or it’s book format. It’s true though! It’s not wrong or a bad idea to be excited about what is to come – when life truly starts outside of our four walls we are in for most of the day. In this post, I will be covering songs about school – some good, some bad, some interesting enough.

1. We Are Gonna Be Friends – The White Stripes

“numbers, letters, learn to spell
nouns, and books, and show and tell
at playtime we will throw the ball
back to class, through the hall
teacher marks our height against the wall

and we don’t notice any time pass
we don’t notice anything
we sit side by side in every class
teacher thinks that i sound funny
but she likes the way you sing”

2. Rivers and Roads – The Head and the Heart

“A year from now, we’ll all be gone
All our friends will move away
They’re going to better places
And our friends will be gone away

Nothing is as is has been
And I miss your face like hell
And I guess it’s just as well
But I miss your face like hell.”

3. School’s Out – Alice Cooper

“School’s out for summer
School’s out forever
School’s been blown to pieces

No more pencils
No more books
No more teacher’s dirty looks

Well we got no class
And we got no principles
And we got no innocence
We can’t even think of a word that rhymes”

4. Seventy Times Seven – Brand New

“Back in school they never taught us what we needed to know,
like how to deal with despair, or someone breaking your heart.”

5. Summer in the City – Lovin Spoonful

“But at night it’s a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come-on come-on and dance all night
Despite the heat it’ll be alright

And babe, don’t you know it’s a pity
That the days can’t be like the nights
In the summer, in the city
In the summer, in the city”

6. Summertime – Regular Show (TV)

“It’s Summertime and you know what that means.
Gonna head down to the beach and do some beachy things.
It’s Summertime, it feels just right.
Gonna gather all my friends and we’ll party through the night.”

So there we have it. If you can’t tell, I, among majority of the rest of the school aged children, are looking forward to getting out of summer – whether it be for those few short months or we are graduating, moving on to bigger and better things.
