Southwestern Assemblies of God University is a Christian university that is located in Waxahachie, Texas. SAGU is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and is affiliated with Assemblies of God USA. Education at SAGU is mostly centered around curricula in the liberal arts, but also teaches ministry and Biblical studies.
The university offers an expansive array of online studies, including over 50 different degrees from two-year to master’s level study. Most of these degrees are offered 100% online, while others require brief residencies to complete the required coursework and credits. Usually, these residential requirements apply to Biblical and Ministerial topics, as in-person training is essential for these studies.
The typical course that a distance learner will take at Southwestern Assemblies of God is to pursue a bachelor’s degree by first earning their associate degree and then applying those credits toward one of the university’s many four-year options. The Associate of Arts as a standalone degree can also be applied to a bachelor’s degree later earned at a separate institution.
A student can earn an Associate of Science in Business Administration, an Associate of Arts in General Business, a Bible associate degree, an Associate of Science in Education, an Associate of Arts in Early Childhood Education, and a few other associate degrees, just to name some of the two-year options available. The transferable degree is referred to as the Associate of Arts in General Studies. This degree is also useful for students that don’t wish to declare their major within their first two years of study.
Some of the selection in baccalaureate majors includes: Accounting, Counseling, Psychology, Human Services, Bilingual Education, Ancient Studies, and many more choices in education not listed here. Particular attention should be drawn to the Bachelor of Arts in Professional Development because, for dedicated Christian students, this is the perfect preparation for higher study in church-related topics. Pertaining to equivalent church-related studies are the additional baccalaureate majors of Counseling Ministries, Theological Studies, Children & Family Ministries, World Ministries/Missions, Church Planting & Revitalization.
Graduate studies are much narrower in selection, but are still plentiful in online selection. Master’s degrees can be earned in Curriculum Development, Christian School Administration, Early Education Administration, Early Childhood/Elementary, Middle & Secondary Education, School Counseling, and in an assortment of Theological Studies. One can also study History with three track options: Education, Thesis, and Non-Thesis. Generally, the non-thesis option requires either brief residence at the university, or an alternative internship. The education track offers an M. Ed. alteration to the standard M. A.
