Checklist for Starting Your Online
Course
- Double-check Artemis
to be confirm orientation date, if applicable. Remember, if
the schedule notes for a course state that an orientation meeting
is mandatory, you must attend even if that is the only meeting
of the semester.
- Visit your instructor's web page for information
about the course requirements and materials, and pertinent information
about how to access the course. An alphabetical
listing of Distance Learning Instructor Web Pages is available.
It is your responsibility to contact your instructor prior
to the beginning of the course to verify your enrollment and
attendance. If you do not contact your instructor within 1 week
of the official start date of class, you may be issued an NA
grade (see below).
- Be sure to make note of important collegewide
deadlines for the term you are registering in. The online College
Catalog is a great source of information, and includes a
College Calendar as well as other important information for
students. You should also check Artemis
for deadlines when you register.
- Understand the "NA"
Policy. The "NA"
grade will be administratively assigned when instructors report
students have not attended class by the second week of the term.
The "NA" grade will
not be used to calculate the grade point average (GPA). For
a distance learning course, if you have not made any attempt
to contact your instructor as per her/his instructions at her/his
web page, you may be assigned an NA
grade. You will not receive a refund for an AW.
It is your responsiblity to contact your instructor prior to
the start of class.
- Textbooks may be ordered
online, or purchased from any campus bookstore:

- Be sure that you have Internet access and
an e-mail account set up well before the start date of your
online course(s). Resolve any technical problems before class
starts, as technical problems are not generally accepted as
an excuse for late or incomplete work in an online course. If
you do not have Internet access or need an e-mail account, Florida
Community College provides both for free to registered and paid
students. More information is available at http://www.fccj.edu/current/stucomputing/.
