The University of South Florida

The University of South Florida is home to the Bulls and one of the most prestigious colleges in the state of Florida. As its ranking in academics and research is increasing – what would encourage graduating seniors to attend? The university is located in the core of Tampa Bay on the west coast of Florida. Additionally, it also has campuses in Sarasota and Lakeland.  This heightens the chances of students that want to stay home to commute or for a more wide selection of campuses to dorm in.

History/Traditions

USF was founded in 1956 and has continued to grow into one of the nation’s leading institutions. From 1950 to the present it has made major accomplishments in its global impact. In July 1959, USF raised $80,000 in its first campaign, “Dollars for Dorms” after the state cut dormitory funding. Furthermore, in 1991, as the largest fundraising campaign in the history of the State University System, “Campaign USF” achieves its goal of raising $111 million. USF also has its own share of traditions. For example, its marching band, Herd of Thunder (HOT), entered the field Southwest Texas State in 1991 stampeding and continues this unique entrance til this day. The university also has a “Go Bulls” Hands Symbol  and is used as a symbol of cheering and greetings.

Academics

USF offers more than 80 undergraduate programs and over 130 degree programs.

Moreover, they offer a chance to be in the Honors college and the University college that is perfect for distance learning, degree completion, and certifications.

Scholarships

USF offers an abundant amount of scholarships. If eligible during application, USF automatically gives the award of:

1) The USF Presidential Award

With an award benefit of $20,000 ($5,000 a year), it can be earned by meeting the requirements of  a 4.30+ GPA and 1450+ SAT (Critical Reading & Math only) or 2150+ SAT (Critical Reading, Math & Writing) or 33+ ACT.

2) The USF Directors Award

With an award benefit of $15,000 ($3,750 a year), it can be earned by meeting the requirements of a 4.00+ GPA and 1300+ SAT (Critical Reading & Math only) or 2000+ SAT (Critical Reading, Math & Writing) or 29+ ACT.

3) The USF Scholars Award

With an award benefit of $8,000 ($2,000 a year), it can be earned by meeting the requirements of a 3.70+ GPA and 1130+ SAT (Critical Reading & Math only) or 1680+ SAT (Critical Reading, Math & Writing) or 25+ ACT.

These are for Florida residents, for out of state, the amount varies. Along with these scholarships, they also give out stackable ones. More information can on scholarships can be found here.
