In August of this year Sarasota, often thought of as a former circus-town now home to many retirees and snowbirds, will increase its number of higher education institution options by one. The University of South Florida’s Sarasota-Manatee campus will begin enrolling freshman and sophomore students for the first time. With both undergraduate degree programs and certificate options, students will have the opportunity to enroll in college while maintaining their local address.

Tuition

Tuition at the Sarasota-Manatee campus is cheaper than the main Tampa campus. For varies reasons, tuition is roughly 16 dollars per credit hour cheaper in Sarasota. For full-time students that could translate into over $200 in savings per semester and nearly $2000 over the course of 4 years!

Student Services

Because Tampa serves so many students, the regional benefits to students mirror that of a community college. Academic Advisors are available by appointment or by walking into the office during normal business hours and long lines are typically only found during peak times throughout the semester for Financial Aid, Admissions, and Advising. In addition, USF Sarasota-Manatee has close ties to the community which could amount to more opportunities for internships and employment.

Clubs and Organizations

USF Sarasota-Manatee currently has twenty-three on-campus clubs and organizations open to students. Below is a list of each with links to their respective pages, but keep in mind that as the campus grows, opportunities for additional societies will exist.

Jonathan’s Café

On campus studying and classes can easily make a student hungry. A benefit for Sarasota-Manatee Bulls is the on-campus dining option Jonathan’s Café. With a full menu posted on the USF website, students can select from an array of yummy options: Cuban sandwich, assorted muffins, Caesar salad, yogurt parfaits, hummus, grilled cheese, etc.
