University of Central Florida

The University of Central Florida is home to the Knights and is currently proud to have enrolled approximated 49,000 students. That brings the university to rank 174th in national universities. UCF was founded in 1963 and as a public institutions, continues to further its education every day.

UCF is prominently located in Orlando but has more than 10 regional campuses. Those include Cocoa, Daytona Beach, Leesburg, Ocala, Palm Bay, Sanford/Lake Mary, South Lake, South Orlando, Valencia Osceola, and Valencia West. Around UCF you can find the major theme parks (i.e. Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, Sea World) and supreme shopping centers. Aside from the university being prestigious, it is located in the perfect area to venture out and enjoy.

Academics

University of Central Florida currently offers 13 colleges. They include:

  • College of Arts and Humanities – Offers 25 undergraduate programs.
  • The Burnett Honors College
  • College of Business Administration
  • College of Education
  • College of Engineering and Computer Sciences
  • College of Graduate Studies
  • College of Health and Public Affairs
  • College of Medicine
  • College of Nursing
  • College of Optics and Photonics
  • Rosen College of Hospitality Management
  • College of Sciences – The largest at UCF with 15 undergraduate degree programs.
  • Interdisciplinary Studies

UCF is roughly split even in its academics as it is 46% male and 54% female. Its top five majors are Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Psychology, Computer Sciences, and Engineering.

Average requirements for entry:

If you are planning to or want to attend the university it is best to look at their current undergraduate SAT and ACT score averages and GPA range. For the fall freshman class it is as followed:

  • Average SAT score (critical reading, math, and writing): 1831
  • Average ACT score: 27.1
  • Average high school GPA: 3.9

Tuition Fees:

As estimated for a Florida Resident, the tuition and fees ($6,246), room and board ($9,300), and books ($1,146) amount up to $16, 642. While Non-Florida residents, for the tuition and fees ($22, 345), room and board ($9,300), and books ($1,146) equal up to $32, 791.

Scholarships

UCF is a commendable school for anyone and if money is an issue, it offers plenty of scholarships through its website here. A few of the scholarships and requirements are listed:

  • NO “ESSAY” COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP
    – Must be a current student  or planning to enroll within 12 months
    – Applicant must be a legal resident of the United States ( International students with valid visas are also eligible)
    – One entry per person. Multiple entries or invalid information will result in disqualification
    AWARD(S): $2,000
    DEADLINE(s): End of each month in 2013
  • VARSITY TUTORS SCHOLARSHIP
    – Must be a current high school student planning to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution or current college student in the U.S
    – Must write an essay
    – Applicant must promote entry through social media
    AWARD(S): $1,000
    DEADLINE: End of each month
  • MILTON G. WRIGHT SCHOLARSHIP
    – Must be eligible to receive federal student aid (Title IV) funding
    – Applicant must be at least 13 years old at the time of entry
    – Must be either a high school senior or graduate, or GED recipient
    – Must plan to enroll or are already enrolled at least half time in an undergraduate degree- or certificate-seeking program, or a non-degree program for teacher certification at an approved 4-year college
    – Applicant cannot be a TG employee or a dependent of a TG employee
    AWARD(S): $500
    DEADLINE(s): End of each month in 2013

Why UCF?

When it comes down to it, why should anyone choose to attend UCF? In a nutshell, the university is located in a comfortable, attractive area. Additionally, UCF offers a range of majors that will fit anyone’s needs and interests. While obtaining an education, you will easily find yourself involved in the school’s clubs and activities as the university is huge on its  school spirit.
