Growing out of a evening Bible study class in Memphis, Tennessee, back in 1941, what is now Victory University was chartered as a private, for-profit institution of higher learning in 2009. Throughout the expansion from that single class to the institution of learning it is today, Victory University has always maintained its emphasis on Bible study and a liberal arts education. Victory University’s mission is to educate students in a “Christ-Centered, Liberal Arts community to Think Critically, Grow Spiritually, and Change Our World”. Open to students of all faiths, Victory University requires first-time applying students to have a high school diploma or GED, and to submit ACT or SAT scores.
Victory University has a keen interest in assisting all types of students. Through its membership in the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP) and as an educational partner with Memphis City School’s Early College Program, Victory University has established a dual enrollment program for high school students. The Bridge to College program allows high school seniors the opportunity to earn college credit in more than 20 classes. Victory University also has a generous credit transfer program, allowing up to 88 credits to be transferred from accredited institutions, and up to 75 credits from non-traditional avenues, like DANTES, CLEP, and professional training.
Transfer credits are available to military students, as well, and Victory University is a partner in the Air Force General Education Mobile program. Intense scholars are invited to apply for the Trinity Scholars Honors Program, while Victory University has set up a Writing Center for those students who need extra assistance. Other students who benefit from Victory University’s interest in partnering are Memphis’ FedEx employees. Victory University has been serving them since the inception of its Evening Degree Completion Program, in 1994. Victory University is proud to have been the first lock-step degree completion program aimed at the non-traditional learner in Memphis.
Nor are distance learners neglected. Victory University has implemented the Learner Management System NGL, which has been extensively tested on Mozilla Firefox, as its platform for its online programs. In addition to its on-campus degree programs, Victory University offers online bachelors degrees in its Departments of Arts and Sciences, Behavioral Sciences, Bible and Theology, Business, and Education. The University is also proud to offer a Master of Science in Professional Counseling degree. A Master of Science in Professional Counseling degree opens career doors for its holder in such varied pursuits as vocational counselor, mental health counselor, substance abuse counselor, marriage and family therapist, and as an individual counselor treating a variety of disorders or mental health issues. The Victory’s Master of Science in Professional Counseling degree is “one of the most versatile degree programs in the country”.
The Liberal Studies programs are geared toward the pursuit of truth and wisdom, asking students to consider what it means to be human. The Christian Worldview permeates all aspects of understanding history, literature, art, philosophy, languages, and cultures. Students are encouraged to reflect on the True, the Good, and the Beautiful in our world.
