Located in Detroit, Michigan, Wayne State University is a public research university with over 28,000 current students. The University was founded in 1868 and currently offers more than 370 degree programs in thirteen different colleges.

Wayne State University is committed to providing students with access to an affordable education. Each year, the university awards nearly $357 million in financial aid in addition to the tuition being one of the lowest in the state of Michigan.


Wayne State University houses the 75th largest collection in the United States, with more than four million volumes. There are currently six different libraries on campus, all dedicated to a particular area of study:

  • Purdy/Kresge Library (social science, humanities, arts, education and business)

Programs Abroad

For the adventurous student who has the ability to uproot themselves for a semester, Wayne State University has an extensive study-abroad program. As of 2013, students have studied in the following countries:

Fun Fact

In 1927 a school poll selected the name of “Tartars” for the school’s athletic teams. In 1999, however, the university changed the name to “Warriors” due to the belief that the tartar name was outdated and unfamiliar to most people.

Ashley Benson is a distance education professional with five years of experience in the for-profit sector. She has worked coast-to-coast within the United States as an academic advisor, an adjunct teaching assistant and, most recently, a campus Registrar. Through formal education and industry experience, Ashley practices staying informed on the current events and changes within higher education and the students involved.
